ABOUT THE PROJECT
Project space dedicated to the presentation of photobook publishing projects within an experimental exploration of photographic research and publishing practice.

ABOUT THE PHOTOBOOKS
The photobook works were  developed in the context of Self-Publishing and the Photobook module
led by paula roush, founder of London-based msdm studio for mobile strategies of display & mediation, info [ + ].

Previously the studio led 'Liquid memories ~to read with water,'  [more here +],
the inspiration for  'Watery Place/ Bodies of Water,'  the brief for both the 'Photography and the Gallery' and the 'Self-Publishing and the Photobook' modules.

The brief is an invitation to explore the meaning of  “photographing with water.” Given our entanglement
with the web of life, we propose “photographing with water” and not “shoot” photographs of water or “take” photographs about water. Photographing with water demands that we move beyond simply asking, “How
are these waters best captured on camera?”
and “How can they be good/ useful photographs to humans?” to also ask, “By whom and how are these
waters situated?” and “How do they bring us together
into a community?”

From deep-felt memories, emotions and mental health to social themes of climate change and pollution, the photobooks encapsulate our shared perceptions of water. Each student evolved their own point of view, allowing it to emerge in photobooks that represent how important water is to us and to our world, asking: "How often do we think about water, what does it means to us, and how much is it taken for granted?"
